Greetings from Kona, Hawaii

“All journeys have secret destinations, of which the traveller is unaware.” – Martin Buber

IMG_0111October 2012, this is the beginning of my travel journey, and I shall never be the same again. T.R.A.V.E.L. a mere six letter word, and yet jet lag and rational thought wager a war against the adrenalin charged awakening of a spirit that has been dormant for too long. A spirit that feels electrified by the proximity of nature, and in awe of my Creator who is a master artist. Every sense responsive to the unfamiliar environment, the air arid and unlike any heat experienced in my home town Melbourne, Australia, and yet the temperature is not oppressive. The scarred landscape is barren, the road littered with volcanic debris which serves as the island’s most sustainable and environmentally suitable building material. Lava Tubes such as photographed above are a natural conduit for lava flow, which has transformed this marred and ever evolving landscape. Soaking in my surrounds, awareness dawns that I have now sipped from a cup that can not be filled, Oliver Wendell was right, “One’s mind, once stretched by a new idea, never regains its original dimensions.”
